Newton Presbyterian Church

The oldest church building in Newton sits on a hill in front of City Hall. The church was established in 1874 and the current building was built in 1905 – 1906.

ESCO

ESCO is a steel foundry and a major recycler of scrap metal that produces dragline buckets and teeth for large earth-moving equipment. Our visit to ESCO is both informative and entertaining!

La-Z-Boy South

La-Z-Boy is a furniture manufacturer and Newton boasts of having the largest facility in Mississippi for the company as well as three supply centers which are the only ones in the country. A walking tour through the plant will show each step in making a La-Z-Boy chair.

Doolittle Confederate Cemetery

In 1863 over one thousand soldiers, Confederate and Union, were brought to Newton Hospital for medical attention. One hundred of these men died and the Doolittle family offered space in their family plot for the fallen soldiers. Wooden crosses marked their graves but have since rotted and been replaced with Unknown Soldier tombstones.
